Courtyard House

‘We love how all the art, lighting and vintage selected pieces connect to create a vibrant and distinctly individual series of layered rooms. There is always something interesting and personal, reflecting the owner’s individual taste, to draw your eyes to. The intense vibrancy of the connected green courtyard draws you outside to further living spaces to enjoy.’

We had already worked on one house for this client and so a level of trust had been established that allowed for the very best outcome – particularly significant as she was overseas during much of the process. Despite the distance she was passionate about this project, and it shows.

The brief was to transform what was essentially a Tuscan villa, ochre in tone and with Italianate detailing, into a vibrant, light-filled and more contemporary space with great connection between indoors and outdoors.

No structural changes were made, but the introduction of bold colour against a neutral palette, distinctive artwork and a mix of contemporary and vintage furniture, lighting, soft furnishings and accessories not only met the brief, but successfully played to the strengths of the spaces. We shared a love of Marrakesh with the client and tiles for the courtyard wall were specially sourced and directly imported from Morocco.
