Bay Blue

Bay Blue

‘Reworking an existing and generous home located in the leafy and established surrounds of San Francisco, Bay Blue brings an Australian appreciation and understanding of living with the outdoors into the fold. Fusing influences from east coast of Australia and the west coast of the U.S. together, the result sees an inviting open dialogue between the landscape and the existing architecture emerge as an inimitable reflection of its owners’.

Openly focussed, the inspiration for the interior decoration of Bay Blue is formed from a shared desire to connect and animate. Both out toward the surrounding landscape and unique sanctuary surrounds that have been created within the bounding edges of the property, while also emanating that internally within the home. Amongst the uniquely private spaces within, the owners wanted to create their own mix of balanced calm, while bringing a curation of their own youthful and curious personalities into the selections of artwork, furniture, and lighting throughout.

Located in the Bay area of San Francisco, the owners had a previous affinity with the colour blue which they wanted to weave throughout. In taking this affection as inspiration, a palette of complimentary tones leads to the selection of elements that sit in harmony with one another. With unique pieces that the owners connected with, contemporary artworks are folded in within the rich and tactile objects throughout, where a combined focus on natural materials mixes with a robustness needed for young family life. The result is immersive, yet reflective, and enhances the newly formed openness throughout.

In wanting to create a home that was unique to both them and their own story, the owners were adamant and impassioned to not replicate or follow a traditional path to adorn their home and wanted to be involved in the process in an engaged manner. Having been fortunate to have travelled extensively, they each wanted to approach their home through a global lens. The vibrancy of the owners is consequently reflected in the selected pieces, seeing a balance created as each selection complements the calming surrounds and formality of the planning throughout.

Through a deeply consultative process, a selection of newly acquired artworks don the walls, with furniture sourced locally and abroad, as a combination of new and antique pieces and of a broader reaching mindset. Integrating pre-loved finds in amongst the new acquisitions ensures each space is its own unique composition of form and texture, interacting with incoming light, views out, and the inherent use of the space in differing ways. By re-enlivening existing pieces, the process was to ensure the current owner could add their own added chapters to the pieces, avoiding a redundancy in waste.
